Society of Illustrators: "The Art of Harvey Kurtzman
Society of Illustrators:
March 06, 2013 - May 11, 2013
One of the things I love about living in NYC is I can walk over to
The Society of Illustrators between jobs and look at a wide variety of artist exhibits.
So I was thrilled that I stopped by yesterday and saw this poster of what is going on behind the red door.
When I was back at SVA Mr. Kurtzman was one of my teachers; it was not one of my stronger classes. The class was how to draw humor in comics I did not do well; at the time I saw very little humor in my artwork and had a hard time making it funny, I feel Mr. Kurtzman and I did not connect so I struggled with the class; funny now I see it in my artwork time, life, and experience is something he could not teach me.
But I do enjoy looking at his artwork.
If it is one of the many collaborations with Will Elder or his alone he has a wonderful line and was a great story teller.

In the exhibit you can see other pages from this story.

I am crossing my fingers that I can go.
But my job may get in the way for this one, I would love to talk with Tomie again.

Also
a review of my artwork that has warmed my heart this morning
and I thought I would share it.
"Stephen's artwork betrays a deep identification with the lives and consciousness of children. I see the drawings he makes as containing whole worlds and stories within those worlds. The inanimate objects and animals are like people, who themselves have stories to tell. His work is joyously colorful and full of lines that seem never to stand still. I am transported in the same way I am when I listen to storytelling or spend an hour just following the thoughts and play of an imaginative, charismatic, and heart-centered child."

The Jehovah's know where I live
Just when you thought it safe to go to your mail box.
The Jehovah's know where I live and now the World Wide Web knows where Judy lives.
When I saw the letter I thought it may be a response from an agent.

But no it is just old fashion Junk mail or better yet "Spam!" in snail mail form.
And I thought script writing was dead.
Hmmm... Time to move?

Illustration Friday "Yesterday"
"Yesterday"
Illustration Friday"
word challenge
Still working with the brush ink pen; I felt I got some nice line work from it .
But as I said in my last post it becomes difficult to create a thin line once the pen is used for a while.

Using brush pens
using a Pigma Brush pen
My favorite art store Utrecht was out of my must have pen's
Pigma Micron 01, and 03's
But they had something new from the same company "Brush pens" so I decided to play around with the. This is what I've done so far.
I like them the only thing is once the brush gets used it becomes harder to create a thin line.
