Just to sharing some watercolor and pen and ink sketches

Just to sharing some watercolor and pen and ink sketches.

With all the prep work I did before and then attending the 2014 winter conference it has made me a wee bit tired so I thought this week take it a little slow, collect my thoughts and regroup, play a little and see what I learned from the SCBWI conference.

End thoughts on the 2014 SCBWI Winter Conference

Well it is Tuesday, and the 2014 SCBWI Winter Conference came to an end on Sunday.
I'm still tired, and like always not sure how to put into words how I feel about the conference.
I go in with hopes to get a clear idea what I need to do and I leave with more questions, how I break into this market? Is still a mystery all I can say is “Keep at it” and I will.
that looks like me speaking to Jason

I met a great group of people who like me are trying to break into this fantastic, frustrating, and challenging market. And hope we stay connected over the years.

One of my high points was a small group review; Arthur Levine critique are small group the subject illustration was “Snow White“ he has a way of saying what he did not like without making it  sound like its the end of the world and gave you encouragement as well without putting your artwork down .
So thank you Mr. Levine!

Also I was talking to Tomie dePaola, and Cecilia Yung after their lecture and that was a special moment.

In a couple of days I think I am going to take this sketch and make it into a finished piece of art; I sketched it while someone was not keeping my attention as a keynote speaker (no need to name names).  I'll take pictures along the way so I can give a break down how I put it all together.

But for now I am going to rest a bit and see if I can get a better grip on the conference material.

2014 SCBWI Winter Conference

Well it is that time of year again that I start to get all excited the SCBWI Winter Conference is just around the corner this time next week I will be listening to the “professionals” on what is going on in the picture book industry . One of my questions will be about how is B&N closing so many stores going to effect on sales as well production of picture books.

It was not been easy end of 2013 nor beginning of 2014 but I managed to create an almost brand new portfolio just for the conference.

I have started painting with watercolor and digital coloring mixing the two mediums; I like what I see coming off my pages I think it will get stronger with some time and a better scanner will help grab the lighter washes I am doing with the paint.
You can see my newest work on line just click HERE

I hope some of you who are going to the portfolio Showcase on Friday will seek out this postcard of my White Rabbit and follow it down the rabbit hole that is my portfolio
