"A Whale of a Tale"

as seen in sketch book

I was inspired by two Twitter tweets.
something about a red bear and another of a book cover design for Moby-Dick.
Go figure inspiration from Twitter, well you never know where or how its going to find you.

early ink sketch
I did a handful of sketches and liked this one

I decided I wanted it to be longer than 8.5X 11 so Moby got its own page

Along the way I added a dog

pencil drawing with watercolor
I have been working a little differently instead of going straight to ink, then adding watercolor, I've been doing a pencil drawing on watercolor paper with washes of watercolor and adding ink in the end; it takes longer this way but the results are
FUN!

Almost done I need to scan them fit it together and finish it in Photoshop
(don't you love that whale?)
